The Ticket to the Job Market of the Future

According to Statistics Norway (SSB), the country could face a shortage of as many as 90,000 skilled workers by 2035. That’s why Gard Olsen has secured what is likely a golden ticket to the job market of the future.

For the past two years, Gard has been an apprentice at Stryvo. There, he has worked on material preparation, turning, and milling. Now, he has completed his trade certification exam—and the certificate is proof of the solid effort Gard has put in. Stryvo has now offered him a permanent position.

A Door Opener

A trade certificate is more than just proof of completed training; it’s a secure entry into a stable and exciting career. For Gard, it opens many doors in an industry that is constantly evolving and where the demand for qualified workers is high.

– Getting a permanent position has been really great. It means I’m a valuable asset to the company, and it gives me the opportunity to become an even better operator, Gard says about the offer he received.

Jonas Eide, head of the machining department at Stryvo, is also very pleased that Gard has accepted the permanent position. He explains:
– We’re of course very happy that Gard has accepted our offer, and we hope he stays on our team for a long, long time. Throughout his apprenticeship, Gard has shown that he is incredibly skilled and meets challenges head-on.

Growing Need for Skilled Expertise

For Gard, passing the trade exam means greater job security, as his expertise will be in short supply over the next decade, according to SSB.

– I think more people should choose vocational training because there are so many exciting tracks that offer lots of opportunities, he says.

The industry is constantly evolving technologically, and the need for skilled labor is greater than ever. This is something Jonas emphasizes as well:

– At Stryvo, we’ve seen a growing demand for specialized knowledge and skills in mechanical work. Skilled professionals like Gard are essential for us to continually improve the way we work so that we can always offer the best solutions to our customers.

Reaching Their Goal

Stryvo has around 100 employees. With a goal of always having ten percent apprentices, the company exceeded this in the fall of 2024, with 13 percent apprentices in the group.

– This is an important goal that allows us, as a company, to actively contribute to ensuring that we may not be missing as many skilled workers in ten years as SSB predicts. We need people like Gard on our team and look forward to developing even more future stars in the industry, Jonas smiles.

Congratulations on your trade certificate, Gard! Together, we are preparing for the future.
