Placement week at Stryvo

A few weeks ago, Stryvo welcomed two placement students, Torgrim Sagsletten and Oliver Oppedal, from Eid Upper Secondary School. Their experiences and insights from the week highlight how important it is that companies like Stryvo accept placement students, not only for the students themselves but also for the future of vocational education.

Choosing Vocational Studies

Torgrim and Oliver come from different backgrounds but both chose vocational studies to have a more physical and hands-on workday.

– I chose this path to get a physical job, and I enjoy working with engines, parts, and metal, says Torgrim.

Oliver had a slightly different journey:

– I did three years of general academic studies, but I realized it wasn’t for me.

The practical experience that Torgrim and Oliver now have gives them a chance to test their choice while also offering a taste of working life.

– It’s a great way to get out of the classroom and try the field you’re planning to work in, says Oliver.

A potential employer for the future

Oliver had heard about Stryvo from his father and teacher and wanted to work for a company in Stryn. Torgrim had also heard of Stryvo and joined Oliver. He sums up the week as a positive experience to bring with him.

– It’s been a lot of fun. I’ve done a lot of things I’ve done before, but I really see the value in students getting placements.

Oliver is also pleased:
– I really enjoy it here. There’s a good environment, and it’s okay to joke around. The atmosphere is great, and it’s clear that everyone enjoys being at Stryvo.

Many opportunities

One of the biggest advantages they experienced was the opportunity to try out different tasks instead of just observing.

– It was nice to walk in the door and feel welcome from day one, says Oliver.

Torgrim agrees and speaks for both of them when he continues:
– We especially liked getting to go out in the field and experience all the varied tasks that are possible within this one company.

– I definitely want to come back, concludes Oliver, a feeling Torgrim shares.

A win-win situation

A Win-Win Situation
By taking in placement students, Stryvo can inspire more young people to choose vocational education, something that is essential for meeting the future challenges of the labor market. Torgrim and Oliver’s experiences at Stryvo clearly show how placement can be beneficial for both the students and the company. For the students, it provides hands-on experience and the opportunity to explore different career paths. . For Stryvo, it can potentially ensure access to qualified future employees and help strengthen the position of vocational education in society.

I really like it here. It’s a good environment here and it’s possible to make a joke. The atmosphere is good, and it’s clear that everyone enjoys Stryvo.”
